Wearable Art & Sustainable Textiles

Keep an eye out for Moral Fibre, an emerging sustainable textiles and fashion label currently in the works. My artwork will feature on beautiful sustainable fabrics, digitally printed using eco-friendly inks.

Artists sometimes feel called to make comment on important social, political, cultural and environmental issues. I speak for myself but share my insights to help to raise awareness. While I don’t profess to have all the answers, my background is marketing. I have dedicated many hours to the topic of consumer behaviour and sustainable, ethical consumption.

My creative interest in wearable art and the upcycling of pre-loved clothing and textiles through fabric printing, fabric painting and sewing has developed over decades. It's great to finally have an outlet for this work. I am also a mad op shopper and have a love for textiles.

Some of my recent work

I am currently developing a range of sustainably produced new textiles featuring my own art. This is a very exciting project. These fabrics are printed digitally right in Australia using environmentally friendly dyes and on natural fibres with a smaller ecological footprint.

My textiles and will be made into wearable art garments such as scarves, and kaftans as well as soft furnishings. I am hoping to raise awareness in consumers that we have a moral obligation as human beings and stewards of this earth to make better, more ethical and more sustainable consumer choices. This may “cost” more in the first instance but currently, but when we as consumers demand cheaper fashion, the planet that sustains us, the animals we share this earth with and people in the 3rd world will unfairly burden the cost of our choices. There’s no pretending that the day is not looming where, if we don’t change, we will all pay an even higher price.

We can make better, more conscious and ethical choices and still create a fabulous look. My eco-friendly label is called Moral Fibre – Unfuck the Planet. I look forward to sharing more about this project soon.
